Public Health at the University of Adelaide

Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society. Our focus is on the health of populations. The Discipline of Public Health is part of the School of Population Health and Clinical Practice.

What is Public Health?

Click here to view the web site developed by the US Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH).  Although originating from another country and concentrating on acute epidemics, it contains much that is of interest, especially when filtered through a local lens.

About the Discipline

Public Health is a multi-disciplinary teaching and research discipline. We have particular research strengths in women's and children's health, health services and health systems research, and environmental health - especially communicable diseases and occupational health.

The primary educator of the South Australian public health workforce

The Discipline provides education for public health personnel in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (and Honours), the Master of Public Health, and the Master of Occupational Health and Safety Management through to its Research Higher Degree program, as well as intensive courses. The Discipline has welcomed many international students from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere. For further information, prospective students should contact the University's Student Centre.

The Discipline of Public Health would like to promote Public Health Courses at an Information evening on 17th December to be held at Level 2, Eleanor Harrold Building, RAH, Frome Road, Room Number EH2:51.  Please see the attached advertisement here. (pdf 48kB)
